FR - Les Hedgehogs

EN - The Hedgehogs

The Hedghogs is a baseball club based in the town of Beckerich in Luxembourg. The club
belongs to the Luxemburgish Baseball Federation (BSFL) and also participates in the German Regional Federation (SWBSV).

The club was formed in 2002 in Beckerich, a small village in western Luxembourg, through the efforts of Francesco Slavazza. The perseverence of the Hedgehobgs baseball club, named after an animal common in the region, will soon be tested as it tries to establish itself in a country where baseball is not a well known sport and the public is somewhat skeptical.

Despite this environment (or perhaps because of it) the club, characterised by its motivation and determination, experienced a growth phase marked by major achievements. Additionally, the club has successfully developed significant infrastructure including the construction of the first baseball diamond in Luxembourg in 2006.

Motivated by a desire to challenge itself against more experienced opponents, the club participated in leagues and championships in neighbouring countries. The Hedgehogs competed in the Belgium Championship from 2006-2008, winning the regional title in 2007. And in 2009 the club joined (along with the other Luxemburgish teams) in the German Championship and continues to compete in this league today. The Hedgehogs were rewarded for their efforts in Germany by winning the regional championship title in the years 2009 and 2010. This is a remarkable acheivement for such a young baseball club from a small country against opponents from much larger cities with richer baseball traditions.
